![]() ![]() It does take time just because all the components that need to be removed but really its pretty easy as far FWD cars go. You will need a wide flange on your jack to give the transmission a steady base to balance on.I have done hundreds of transmission removals and this by far was the easiest. I have no idea what the tangs are for but they required to be bent in to keep from hitting.Īs far as intalling the transmission, it went in like a dream (both times). Although I didn't have problems with the ring gear hitting the bell housing, my problem came from two tangs protruding from the large radius of the pressure plate. ECS says it is possible for the ring gear to rub on casting imperfections and will require some grinding of the bell housing. Only problem I had that didn't reveal itself till after I got the transmission reinstalled was the pressure plate striking the transmission bell housing. I installed the ECS tuning stage one clutch. Stuff some paper towels in the hole where the drive flange was to keep oil from escaping the transmission and making a mess. The trick is to free the transmission off the engine and push the transmission far enough from the engine to allow enough room for the drive flange to clear the CV shaft and be removed. It is very frustrating to remove the flange. I'm sure its possible to get the transmission out with the drive flange on but its not worth the hassle of trying to manipulate the transmission around to get it out. I struggled forever trying to get the transmission out with the passenger side drive flange installed. ![]() Pic show you the other grease points 063-1 and 063-2 put the lube in the linkage cable cap, not on the ball stud.Ĭlick to expand.I just got done installing a new clutch on my beetle. Pic shows what you need to do to get the counter balance weight nut tightened. I forgot to clean :banghead: the magnifying glass lens so it is blurry, but you can still see the line up slot thru it. The gear shift counter balance weight had gear slots (or teeth) on it to ensure that it can be put on only one way.
